Sis, Your Business Needs a Reboot
The BOSS Moves, Inc. Sassnistas love to have poppin’ conversations about business reboots.
Because that “boss babe” blueprint was never built for rebels like us.
There’s nothing more humbling than realizing you built the wrong business. I had the degrees. The corporate experience. The workshops, the network, the stack of business books, and the receipts. But still—nope. My business never scaled the way I dreamed it would, and not because I didn’t try. I tried everything. What I hadn’t done? Stopped to ask myself what I really wanted to build and who I really wanted to build it with.
I was chasing opportunities, tweaking offers, and performing entrepreneurship like a pro—but deep down, I wasn’t building from alignment. I wasn’t owning my truth or the type of work I wanted to do. I wasn’t leading with intention. And that, sis, is why I had to burn it down and start over—with clarity, courage, and a real plan.
What They Tell Us to Do (That Isn’t Working)
Modern business advice is loud, repetitive, and—let’s be honest—a little tired. Everyone’s screaming about funnels, personal brands, going viral, niching down, charging more, or hiring a VA to “buy your time back.” And sure, some of that might work. But a lot of it is noise—especially if you’re building a business that doesn’t align with your values, your voice, or your actual vision.
What happens when the rules you’ve been following don’t work? What happens when you realize the version of success you’ve been sold doesn’t even feel good?
Before you spiral (been there), ask yourself these five questions:
Who is my actual audience—and are they still aligned with the vision I have now?
Do I believe in the product or service I’m offering—or am I just doing what “sells”?
Is my marketing strategy authentic or just copy-paste advice from the internet?
Have I studied my competition—or am I trying to be everything to everyone?
Is this business model giving me life—or draining the hell out of me?
Rebooting the Hustle with Intention
When I got honest with myself, I realized I didn’t need to quit—I needed to rethink everything. Not from scratch, but from truth. The problem wasn’t just the tactics—it was the fact that I’d built a business based on what I thought I was supposed to do, not what actually worked for me.
Here’s what didn’t work—and what I had to do instead:
Myth #1: Just find your niche and go all in.
Sounds smart, right? But the niche I chose wasn’t rooted in who I wanted to serve—it was based on what seemed popular or profitable at the time. I didn’t fully understand my people or speak to what they actually needed. I was “targeting” an audience instead of trying to connect with a community. When I got clear about who I really wanted to be in community with, the game changed.
Myth #2: Just sell the thing. If it’s good, it’ll work.
Here’s the truth: good isn’t always enough. I had strong ideas and beautiful offerings—but they didn’t land because they weren’t in alignment with the need or the moment. I wasn’t just selling a product—I was trying to sell transformation without anchoring it in real clarity. These days, before I create anything, I ask: does this solve a problem they care about right now?
Myth #3: Content is king. Market like crazy. Be everywhere.
I tried it. The reels. The newsletters. The events. The hashtags. All of it. But none of it worked like I expected, because I was mimicking tactics instead of building a message. Visibility without substance is just noise. Now, I focus on saying something worth hearing—not just posting for the algorithm.
Myth #4: You need to study the competition and “differentiate.”
I spent too much time looking at what others were doing and not enough time building from what made me different. Yes, it's smart to know the landscape—but too much comparison fogs your clarity. What sets me apart isn’t a tagline—it’s the lived experience I bring into my work. That’s the lane I stay in now.
Myth #5: If your business is draining you, you just need better time management.
Girl. No. Sometimes, the model itself is the problem. I had to admit that the way I set things up was never going to give me the freedom, income, or impact I was after. It wasn’t about tweaking my calendar—it was about rebuilding the structure so my business supported my life, not the other way around.
Sis, You’re Not a Statistic—Unless You Want to Be
Yes, it’s true—many businesses fail within the first few years. But yours doesn’t have to be one of them. Not if you’re willing to pause, reflect, and rebuild with intention. Not if you’re brave enough to do the hard work of letting go of what no longer serves you. And definitely not if you’re ready to rewrite your own rules.
You don’t need more hustle. You need a reset.
