Journey to Sasstopia: 5 Characteristics of a BOSS

In this journey to Sasstopia, we get it poppin’ to get to know BOSS Lady Jax. Jax is a member of the Motley Crew group of gal pals that are on a mission to live their best life by daring to be sassy, live chic and think geek. Jax is the daughter of a Trinidadian mother and Puerto Rican father. Jax feels like she has a lot of pressure to not only make her parents proud, but be the best that she can. She feels like she has to be a BOSS!

Jax is the owner of an e-commerce startup where she curates products made by women in various African countries including Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Jax started her business when she was in college and spent a summer in Kenya with one of her best friends when they went home to visit her family.

Jax loved the products that many of the women at the market sold including clothes, jewelry and other handcrafted goods. She thought the quality of the handmade goods were so amazing and that many of these women could make more money if they could sell their products in the US and other parts of the world.

She posted the products on her social media accounts and before she could get ready to put some of them on Etsy, they had already sold out. She decided to create a website and set up a partnership with the NGO that ran the market to buy goods from the women. She really wanted to be an entrepreneur and also provide opportunities for women to improve their own quality of life.

As a business owner, she was intentional about being the type of leader that lifts others up and shared her five characteristics of BOSS Behavior.

Jax’ 5 Characteristics of BOSS Behavior

Jax believes that her key to success is adopting the kind of BOSS behavior that is focused on showing up and leading as her most authentic self. She believes that these 5 characteristics are the keys to being a BOSS that has been able to make meaningful change for others.
