The SCG Experience - Show Up. Lead. Change The World.

Are you ever surprised about the random things that you remember? Recently, I was quizzed on the character names for different TV shows and was asked to name at least two of the characters on Friends. I named them all. Here’s the funny thing: I didn’t watch Friends regularly. But when Friends became syndicated, it seemed like it was everywhere and something that I would have on in the background when doing other things. I also often think back to the random things that I learned in school - like the Periodic Table of Elements, the Pythagorean Theorem and how to conjugate a verb in Spanish. Very random.

When I was in college, I minored in psychology and I don’t know why. The only thing that I remember is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and how we, as humans, have to be able to meet our basic needs (i.e. food, water, shelter), before we move up the pyramid to ensuring our safety, love and sense of belonging, self-esteem and the pinnacle of life, self-actualization. The Hierarchy of Needs has always resonated with me throughout the course of my adult life. I really think that it played a significant role in my desire to go on a journey to “live my best life” and ultimately create SassyChicGeek.

Being able to self-actualize is a basic human right and it looks different for different people. For me, being self actualized means being centered in my experience as a Black woman, first, by raising my voice to be heard (sassy); living my life and expressing myself by my own rules (chic); and using my brainpower as my ultimate power (geek). I also believe that once we are self-actualized, we have a responsibility to pay it forward and help to create the kind of society where others can live their fully realized lives.

Systems of oppression against Black, Indigenous, people of color and social issues like poverty, mental health, access to education, etc. make it difficult for ALL of the people in our society to live fully actualized lives. For SassyChicGeek, our goal is to help celebrate and advance women and girls who dare to live their fully realized lives by equipping them with the experiences, tools and resources needed to not only show up as fully realized, actualized selves, but to pay it forward and lead to make an impact.

What makes SassyChicGeek unique is that we use diverse avatar characters, called Sassnistas, that live in a magical place called Sasstopia. Using our Sassnistas and Sasstopia, we offer:

As you can see, there are many ways to plug into the SassyChicGeek experience as you journey to live a full life. Are you ready to get it poppin’ in these #SassyStreets? Follow SassyChicGeek on Instagram or visit www.sassychicgeek.com.
